Looks like OcUK no longer stock the mouse. I received mine today. Heres my quick review: + price (£14.99) + nice shape and size + i found it easy to use as some mice can feel strange when new + mouse wheel feels good + the rubber thumb grooves are a nice touch + dpi and thumbs buttons seem well made - feels a little light weight - looks somewhat cheap (shiny plastic) - the left/right buttons feel too lose for me - no software/drivers cd included = not sure how good a gold-plated USB connector is There is a firmware update and software available on the Gigabyte website.
The software only allows for button configuration and dpi sensitivity. Im sure i read that the led colour can be changed but that might just be the M6980. The mouse is very smooth in every day windows/browser use. I have only used it for gaming for about 30 mins playing Metro 2033 which felt smooth and very capable. I'm using the M6980 and had a similar issue with the squeak you refer to, except it changed the tactility of the left click to an annoying degree. However, as it wore down I assume, the problem slowly went away. The build quality I think is very good, but performance between the M6900 and M6980 is probably different as they use different sensors.
The M6980 I've been using is very impressive for the money. I'd definitely say it's a solid choice, but it doesn't meet the smoothness of the best optical sensors either. However, you have to pay more for those in my opinion. In it's price bracket you can't go wrong.
Gigabyte also have a wireless version coming to market, the. The sensor is optical and up to 1600 DPI, so perhaps not a great gaming mouse, but in terms of comfort, design and shape, I think this design is brilliant. The M6980 is probably the most easily comfortable mouse I've used. Bear in mind I've never bought a high end wireless mouse or even a non-gaming mouse (bar the classic MS Intellimouse) so that's where I'm coming from.
